Basics of a Manicure

I am pretty sure we’ve all had a manicure at some point in our lives, whether a professional or a good old D-I-Y one.

My very first manicure was at the age of 4, I recall vaguely going to the salon with my mum, she was getting a mani-pedi and I insisted I had to have one too. She wasn’t too keen on it but after what felt like hours of my wailing, she finally said they could scrub my hands and use a nail brush on my nails to make me feel like I was getting the real deal…the whole experience was topped off with a red polish application.
It was love at first scrub…subsequently my mum gave me “manicures” at home and I'd always have red nail polish on.

However as I grew older, I realised I had no clue why I was doing it or what the benefits were. There had to be a reason why millions of women around the world got manicures so frequently, apart from the obvious fact that it looked good and was a great fashion accessory.

So why do we get manicures? I’ve listed the basic steps to a good professional manicure and the benefits of them.

Firstly, your hands are the first tell-tale sign of your age so it is important to take good care of them, besides that they do all the work for you through out life!

Basics of a Manicure
Step 1:

Shaping of the nails and treating cuticles allows for clean, neat nails and nail beds but more importantly it makes the nails healthier and stronger as it encourages new cell growth.

Step 2:

Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells and stimulates regeneration, leaving the hands softer, smoother and radiant.

Step 4:

Moisturising the hands after the steps above nourishes and hydrates the skin. Applying cuticle oil specifically moisturises the cuticles and stimulates healthy nail growth.

Step 3:

Massage stimulates blood flow and improves circulation and the mobility of joints by reducing aches and pains.

A manicure can be finished at step 4, or could be finished with a polish or nail treatment application.
Over all not only do you leave with pretty hands, it is also a major stress busting experience as you leave feeling relaxed!
